Cases of female infertility are linked to low-quality ovules. For this year, a group of researchers from Stanford University (USA) has developed an “in vitro activation” technique that helps women with ovarian failure to produce healthy and mature eggs again.
The process involves removing ovarian tissue and treating it in the laboratory with proteins and other factors that help immature follicles develop into ovules. Of the number of women undergoing this treatment, five produced viable ova, one is pregnant and another has already given birth to a healthy baby.
