Antitussive is a drug used to treat irritative, non-productive dry cough.
Benzocaine is a local anesthetic, used to relieve pain and irritation of the throat. It acts by blocking the conduction of nerve impulses by decreasing the permeability of the neuronal membrane to sodium ions.
Its mechanism of action starts in 30 sec as soon as it is absorbed and lasts 10-15 min.
